Next Teen Advisory Board Meeting
Thursday, December 1, 2005
3:00 - 4:00 pm.
Join the Teen Advisory Board! Students in grades 6 -12 are welcome to join. The Teen Advisory Board is a group of students who is interested in creating programs and events for themselves and their peers here at the library. The TAB also recommends books and materials to be added to the library collection. The purpose of TAB is to have fun while being creative and learning to work as a team. This is a great way for high school students to fullfill their community service requirement. For more information, call the Information Desk at (413) 525-5400 x158.
Teen Book Discussion Group
Have you ever wanted to join a book discussion group with teens your own age where YOU actually pick the book? Read about topics that interest YOU? Get to talk about what you liked or didn’t like, and what you got out of a particular book?
Yes? Then the Teen Book Discussion Group at the East Longmeadow Public Library is for you! The group is open to all teens in grades 6 – 12. This book club is run by, and made up of, teens!
The first informational meeting will be held on December 8th, from 3:00 – 4:00 pm in the library's Community Room. The purpose of this meeting will be to select the first book and plan how meetings will be run.
We hope you will join us on December 8th! Refreshments will be served!
Role Playing Adventure Afternoon
The East Longmeadow Public Library will host a “Role Playing Adventure Afternoon” on Friday December 30 th, 2005 from 1-4 pm. Library assistant Sarah Hodge-Wetherbe hosts the event.
Role Playing Games are games based on a combination of story-telling and improvisational acting to create a fictional adventure. Players create characters, and react to situations and story elements as told by the creator of the adventure or “Game Master” who in turn describes the actions happening in the game.
Role Playing games promote creativity, writing and acting skills, math skills, and cooperation among players.
The library will provide all materials, teach players how to play the game, and then run a one-session adventure in the same afternoon, using the Big Eyes Small Mouth Game system.
The event is open to teenagers aged 13-18.
Pre registration is required and space is limited. Register by calling 525-5400 x158, or sign up at the Information Desk at the library.
Do You Have Your Library Card?
For your protection and security, your library card is the preferred way of accessing your account. Beginning November 1, 2005 you will be required to present your library card in order to check out or renew materials. By using your card, you show that you approve of each item being checked out to your account—each card is specific to each borrower and is not transferable, even to another family member. Please have your card handy when you’re ready to check out items. Lost or misplaced cards will be issued after showing proper identification and paying a $2.00 charge.
Also, beginning November 1, 2005 you will be required to have with you a valid C/W Mars library card to use the library Internet computers on the second floor.
