Our Mission

The East Longmeadow Police Department has been established by the citizens to provide them a high level of safety, security and service. As an enforcement agency of local government, the police department has the responsibility for the preservation of public peace and for the effective delivery of a wide variety of police service. The personnel of this police department are committed to performing proactive activities as well as a reactive service to meet the needs of the community.

Department Profile

The East Longmeadow Police Department staff includes sixteen full-time police officers, six sergeants, four part-time police officers, two office personnel, a part time custodian and a police chief.

The department provides a uniformed patrol response to reports of suspicious activity, criminal investigations, first response to medical emergencies to support a contracted ambulance service, traffic control and enforcement, investigation of electronic alarms as well as numerous service calls for assistance or referral.

Police service is communicated through the twenty-four hour police dispatch center. The center also acts as the emergency community contact for all other town agencies after regular business hours.

The agency's proactive services include the DARE Program, the SALT Program (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together), Police Review of Community Development, Crime Prevention Assistance and a Directed Patrol Strategy that is guided by incident analysis and community input.
