Coaching & Parenting Web Links

In addition to the materials in the library, the links below contain excellent information to augment the East Longmeadow Recreational Sports programs.  It is best to have as much information as possible when trying to teach positive live lessons through sports.

Coaching

The Positive Coaching Alliance was established at Stanford University in 1998.  The Alliance believes that winning is one goal in youth sports but that a second, more important goal is using sports to teach life lessons through positive coaching.  Understanding and implementing the philosophy of the Positive Coaching Alliance is critical to the success we seek at the Youth Level.  The complete library of PCA founder Jim Thompson's publications are available in the Recreation Department for you to sign out.

A number of East Longmeadow coaches have also been certified by the National Association of Youth Sports

Parents

Any successful sports program requires support from the parents of the youth athlete. Assuredly, every parent wants their child's experience in sports to be a positive one.  The youth sports arena is a far cry from cheering for your old school or favorite professional team.  Years of research has provided some guidelines we'd like the parents in East Longmeadow to adhere to.
