MEADOW BROOK PTO MINUTES
February 3, 2005
1. Call
to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. by PTO President Lori
Lajoie.
2.
Secretary’s Report: Motion made and
seconded to accept the December minutes.
3.
Treasurer’s Report: Dee Torff reviewed the
December financial report. A motion
was made and seconded to accept the financial report.
4.
Principal’s Report: Miss Fletcher
said the OT Team wrote a thank you note to the PTO for approving money to
purchase supplies. Copy of the letter
on table, if you would like to read it.
Waiting to hear from Lion’s Club about donation to purchase
camcorder. Mr. Sheehy coordinated a
Resource Center for teachers. Read
Across America, Dr. Seuss, is an upcoming event, date to be determined. 100th day of school is on Monday,
February 14th, which is also Valentine’s Day. Reminder of upcoming Public Forums on the
FY06 School Budget – Tuesday, February 15; Tuesday, March 29; and Thursday,
April 28, 2005. All meetings are from
7pm-8pm at the high school. January’s
forum was cancelled due to weather.
5.
Teacher’s Report: Julie Elkay (1st
grade).
Went on a fieldtrip to Springfield Science Museum. Learning topics are Martin Luther King,
February holidays and 100th day of school.
Connie Frater
(2nd grade).
Went on a fieldtrip to Norcross Wildlife and built birdhouses. Learning topics addition, subtraction, time
telling, money, Groundhog’s Day, President’s Day and weather. Please have Valentine’s cards with name on
envelope.
6.
Committee Reports: The following
was discussed regarding PTO committees:
Box Tops -- 8,000 tops submitted and the school received $800. Mrs. Spears class won contest, and her class
will watch a movie and have popcorn.
Next deadline
Friday, March 4th. Please
clip before sending in box tops.
Staff Appreciation – Date is
Friday, May 6th. Committee
to meet soon.
Book Fair – Dates are April 12th,
13th and 14th.
Held during the day on the stage in cafeteria.
Butterbraids – Profit approximately $2,300.
7.
New Business
Playground
mulch. Has not been ordered yet. Will be ordered and delivered in spring.
Digital
equipment has arrived and teachers will begin using equipment soon.
Our next PTO meeting will be held
Thursday, March 3rd, at 7:00 p.m.
There being no further business, the
meeting was adjourned at 7:24 p.m.

seconded to accept the October minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: Dee Torff reviewed the
October financial report. A motion
was made and seconded to accept the financial report.

Principal’s Report: Miss Fletcher
spoke about the Holiday Concerts, December 7th and 8th. Christmas Break begins Friday, December 23rd
with a ½ day, (12:20pm dismissal), returning on Monday, January 3rd. 1st and 2nd grades
close on December 3rd.
Working on school budgets, which are due by the end of December.

Teacher’s Report: Julie Elkay (1st

Learning topics are addition, subtraction, environment/seasonal changes,
holiday and family celebrations.
Connie Frater
(2nd grade).
Learning topics are mapping earth surface, rocks, addition and
subtraction. Reminder of the holiday
concert on 12/7.
Carol Toth
(Music)
UMASS student teacher, Chris Rapacki will be with us till
Christmas. 1st grade holiday
concert on Tuesday, December 7th, 2nd grade concert on
Wednesday, December 8th.
Broken keyboard, new one was ordered.
The second grade choir will be performing at the Festival of Trees on
December 11.

Committee Reports: The following
was discussed regarding PTO committees:
Pizza Night – Great turnout and $300 profit.
Sweatshirts - Delivered, one short.
Fundraiser – Our main fundraiser raised over
$28,000 with a school profit of $14,000
Gift Certificates – Delivery
before Christmas
Wrapping Paper – Minor glitch, there was a
theft. Packaging should be boxes not
plastic bags.
7.
New Business
Motioned was
made and seconded to a Silver Sponsorship ($600)
for East Longmeadow Education Endowment Fund.
Two proposals
were presented. Both proposals passed.
1. Purchase digital cameras (4), camcorder (1), photo quality printer
(1). Total $3,389.42
a. If Lion’s Club donates $600 (cost of
camcorder), chargers, batteries and camera supplies will be purchased.
2. Occupational therapy supplies:
slanted binders, weighted seats and pencil grippers. Total $500
a. will put in newsletter asking for 2”-3”
slanted binders and volunteers to sew weighted (rice) seats.
Our next PTO meeting will be held
Thursday, February 3rd, at 7:00 p.m.
There
being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:08 p.m.
